Pool Start-up Tips

Welcome to Pool School

Once your pool water has reached the middle of the tile line, a technician will be scheduled to meet you at your house and
turn on all of the equipment and provide instructions on the proper use and maintenance of your swimming pool. It is
recommended that you do not swim in the pool until the water is properly balanced.

  • White Plaster Finishes – Do not require any type of acid wash.
  • Quartz Designer Plaster Finishes – The plaster crew will do an interior acid wash as the final step in the plaster installation process.
  • Stone Pebble Plaster Finishes – The plaster crew will return the next day after the plaster is installed to complete an acid
    wash and expose the finish.

First 14 Days After Pool School

  • Your pool equipment will run for almost 24 hours a day during the first 14 days.
  • It is important to brush down your plaster at least twice a day for 14 days.
  • Have your water tested atapool supply store within 72 hours after start-up.
  • Test your chemicals daily for 14 days and maintain proper chemical balances.
  • Clean your filter at the end of every week for the first 30 days to remove any plaster dust then maintain a schedule to clean your filter every 6 months.
  • If your equipment is not running at any time during this period, please contact the service department.

After the First 14 Days

  • Add a schedule program for Low or Pool and have your pool equipment run for 10-12 hours every day (8am-8pm)
  • Delete High Speed Aux schedule under the Schedules Menu
  • Continue to brush down your plaster at least once a day to complete the 30 day curing process.
  • Pool heater should NOT be used until the 30 day brush down is complete.

Salt Systems

  • Wait for 30 days after start-up to add salt to your pool. Until then you will maintain a traditional chlorine pool using tablets or shock.
  • Regularly check the LED lights on the salt intellichlor component and maintain a schedule to clean the salt cell every 3 months.

Pool Cleaner

  • The pool cleaner should not be added to the pool until after the 30 day brush down period.
  • To program the cleaner: Add a schedule for Aux 1 (pool cleaner) to run 2 hours per day during the time your pool equipment is scheduled to run.
  • If you notice the cleaner is moving slower than normal or not at all, tighten the pressure release button as well as clean the screen in the wall fitting.

Filter Cleaning

  • Turn off your pool system and close the skimmer valves and main drain valve. (Spa drain should stay closed.)
  • Open air relief valve to allow water to drain from the filter. Once the suction stops from the air relief valve remove the drain plug from below the filter.
  • Remove the bolt assembly from the band clamp, then remove the band clamp from around the filter.
  • Remove the top half of the filter tank and remove the top manifold from the cartridges.
  • Remove each cartridge individually and set aside for cleaning.
  • Clean the airbleed screen in the filter and inspect it for breaks or tears. If you notice breaks or tears in the screen it will need to be replaced.
  • Use your water hose and nozzle to clean inside the bottom half of the tank flushing the remaining debris through the drain hole.
  • Replace the drain plug and begin cleaning your cartridges and inspecting them for any possible build-up of debris, stains, or tears.
  • Remove the filter o-ring and add lubricant. Be very careful not to stretch the o-ring when adding this lubricant. Replace the o-ring after adding lubricant.
  • Replace the cartridges back into the filter tank and attach the top-half of the filter tank. Be sure to face the pressure gauge towards the front of the equipment pad so that you can see it.
  • Put the band clamp around the filter and replace the bolt assembly. As you tighten the bolt assembly periodically tap around the band clamp with a rubber mallet to ensure a tight seal. Tighten the bolt assembly until the spring is completely compressed. (Do not over or under tighten.)
  • Turn your system back on and open your skimmer valves and main drain valve immediately afterwards.
  • Wait for water to spray from your pressure relief valve on the top of your filter and then close the valve.
